Our History

Peacock Bros. was established on Collins Street in Melbourne, 1888. Bros. Ernest and Charles Peacock founded the small general printing business together, quickly developing a reputation for exceptional quality and outstanding service. Ernest was a true innovator, and five generations later Peacock Bros. remains an Australian family business that is driven by innovation. We continue to locally manufacture and supply high-quality printed labels, tags, thermal printers, ribbons and packaging solutions to a wide range of clients around the world. Today we are one of the largest providers of enterprise mobility and healthcare technology solutions across Australia and New Zealand. Backed by an expert team we collaborate with over 12,000 customers providing sustainable and innovative packaging and labelling industry solutions.

1888
Peacock Bros. is established

Peacock Bros. is established by brothers Ernest and Charles Peacock as a small general printing business in Sydney. Ernest takes over the business, moving to the heart of Collins Street, Melbourne.

1901
Peacocks is entrusted by the Commonwealth Publishing Company

Peacock Bros. is commissioned by the Commonwealth Publishing Company to print a booklet celebrating the Opening of the First Federal Parliament of Australia.

1915
The printing business diversifies

The printing business diversifies by also providing businesses with account stationery, filing systems and office products. The company now employs over 100 staff across the ANZ region

1928
Peacock House - Bourke Street

Peacock Bros. move to a larger purpose-built premise located on Bourke Street, Melbourne. The building is name ‘Peacock House’

1935
The opening of the Comptometer Training School

Following the invention of the comptometer in 1887, new business opportunities arise with Peacock Bros. distributing Victor Comptometer across the region and opening a Comptemeter Training School. This results in Peacock Bros. providing accounting and stocktake services to iconic businesses including Coles, Myer, David Jones and other large retailers.

1962
Peacock Bros. experiences continued growth and moves to Carlton

Peacock Bros. continues to grow and moves to Leicester Street, Carlton where state-of-the-art printing equipment is installed.

1968
Weber Marking Systems introduced by Peacock Bros.

The business introduces Weber Marking Systems into the Australian marketplace and provides box coding systems and desktop stencil label printers to small and large businesses.

1976
Peacock Bros. wins distribution rights of Casio calculators into Australian Schools

Peacock Bros. acquires distribution of the iconic Casio brand of calculators and wins the Australian Education Department’s approval for supply into Australian schools.

1978
Peacock Bros. purchases the first flexographic printing press in Australia

Peacock Bros. purchases the first flexographic label printing press in Australia and begins producing pressure sensitive roll labels. It also establishes its own brand of pressure label material suitable for Weber desktop label printers.

1984
Sole distributorship for Label-Rite

Peacock Bros. is awared sole distributorship for state-of-the-art Label-Rite desktop computer label printers.

1988
Peacock Bros. becomes sole distributor for Zebra

Peacock Bros. becomes sole distributor for Zebra thermal desktop printers, introducing Zebra into the Australian marketplace and forging a strong partnership still present today

1993
Peacocks is awarded Zebra Platinum Partner

Peacock Bros. is awarded Zebra Platinum Partner status which it still holds today. With business demand increasing, Peacock Bros. purchases more flexographic label presses.

2002
The business expands into New Zealand

Peacock Bros. expands into New Zealand with the acquisition of Label NZ, now trading as Peacock Bros. NZ Ltd.. Peacock Bros. also enters the automated data capture industry with the acquisition of a mobile data and barcoding company now known as the Peacock Bros. Enterprise Mobility Solutions (EMS) division.

2005
The business experiences growth within the automated data capture industry

The business grows within the automated data capture industry and acquires Walker Datavision Australia, bolstering its software and engineering capabilities within this field.

2011
Peacock Bros. enters the digital printing market

Peacocks Bros.enters the digital printing market with the acquisition of its first digital press - The HP Indigo 4050.

2017
Peacock Bros. purchases new companies

Peacock Bros. continues to bring new age digital printing technology into the Asia Pacific market with the first installation of the HP8000 in Australasia. Peacock Bros. incorporates a new company, Image Technology Group, launching its own brand of thermal printers and consumables along with medical grade all-in-one computers, mobile carts and accessories, specifically designed for healthcare environments. Peacock Bros. acquires Mornington Peninsula based company Label HQ bolstering its market share with prime label industries including local wine, craft beer and pharmaceutical products.

2018
Peacocks celebrates 130 years

Now a fith generation, Australian owned and operated family business, Peacock Bros. celebrates its 130th birthday marking a milestone achievement of continued business success for five generations of Peacocks.

2022
Peacocks enters the printed packaging market place

Peacock Group acquires AMR Hewitts, a 40+ year old family owned company specialising in printed carton packaging located in Tullamarine, VIC. This acquisition further strengthens Peacocks’ offerings in the printed packaging marketplace, complementing its current range of colour labels and flexible packaging products.
